Website Traffic but No Leads? 10 Fixes That Turn Visitors into Enquiries

Visitors but no enquiries means wasted budget. These ten practical fixes help your website turn more traffic into calls, messages and quote requests.

You have invested in a website, perhaps in SEO or paid ads as well, and your analytics dashboard shows people are visiting. Yet the phone stays quiet and the inbox is empty. This is one of the most common problems small and mid-sized businesses face, whether they sell in Chicago, Manchester, Madrid, Melbourne or Mexico City. The good news: it is usually fixable without rebuilding everything from scratch.

Here are ten changes that consistently turn more visitors into calls, messages and quote requests.

1. Say clearly what you do in the first screen

Visitors decide within a few seconds whether they are in the right place. Replace vague headlines such as “Welcome to our company” or “Innovative solutions for your needs” with a specific promise: what you do, for whom and where. For example: “Precision CNC components for automotive and hydraulics customers across the Midwest” or “Commercial cleaning for offices in Greater London.” Specific beats clever every time.

2. Put a clear call to action everywhere

Every page should tell visitors what to do next: “Get a free quote”, “Book a 15-minute call”, “Request a demo”. Place it in the header, after each key section and at the end of the page. If the only way to contact you is a small “Contact” link in the menu, you are losing people who were ready to talk.

3. Make it effortless to reach you on mobile

More than half of your visitors are probably on a phone. Add a tap-to-call number, and consider the messaging channels your customers actually use: WhatsApp is the default in much of Europe, Latin America and Australia, while SMS or live chat may suit North American buyers better. A floating button that opens a chat or a call with one tap often becomes a surprisingly large source of enquiries.

4. Shorten your forms

Every extra field reduces submissions. Ask only for what you need to respond: name, email, phone (optional) and a short message. Collect budgets, company size and detailed requirements later in the conversation. If you need more information for a quote, use a two-step form: easy questions first, details second.

5. Speed up the website

A slow site loses visitors before they read a single line. Compress and resize images, use good hosting close to your main market, remove unused plugins and scripts, and test key pages with Google PageSpeed Insights. Aim for pages that load in under three seconds on a mobile connection.

6. Show proof that you are trustworthy

People buy from businesses they trust, and online they look for evidence:

  • Client logos and links to real work you have done
  • Google reviews, Trustpilot ratings or testimonials with names and companies
  • Years in business and the number of customers you have served
  • Certifications, awards and trade association memberships
  • Real photos of your team, premises and work instead of generic stock images

7. Create a page for every service

A single “Services” page listing everything makes it hard for visitors, and for Google, to understand what you offer. Dedicated pages for each service answer specific questions, rank for more specific searches and convert better, because the visitor lands exactly where their need is described.

8. Answer common questions and objections

Price ranges, timelines, your process, warranties, service areas, payment terms. A short FAQ section on each service page removes the doubts that stop people from contacting you. If you serve clients in several countries, say so clearly and mention which time zones and languages you work in.

9. Make sure enquiries actually reach you

Surprisingly often, contact forms are broken or notification emails land in spam. Test your forms regularly, use a proper email sending setup (SMTP with a service such as your own domain mail), and send notifications to a second address or a team chat channel. If you collect personal data, show a short privacy notice next to the form, especially for visitors covered by GDPR in Europe or similar rules elsewhere.

10. Track what works

Set up conversion tracking in Google Analytics 4 for form submissions, phone clicks and chat clicks. Once you know which pages, keywords and channels bring enquiries, you can invest more in what works and stop paying for what does not. Quick self-check

  • Can a visitor tell what you do, and for whom, within five seconds?
  • Is there a call to action visible without scrolling?
  • Can a mobile visitor call or message you with one tap?
  • Does the site load in under three seconds on a phone?
  • Have you tested your contact form this month?
  • Do you know which pages generate enquiries?

If you answered “no” to two or more, your website is probably losing enquiries every week. Sometimes a set of targeted fixes is enough; sometimes it is time for a fresh start. Read the signs your website needs a redesign to decide.
